On a remarkable day, the Metro East Humane Society witnessed an extraordinary event unfold. As part of their annual Black Friday adoption celebration, the shelter’s generous sponsors graciously covered the adoption fees, inspiring a remarkable turnout.
An incredible 94 animals, including 64 lovable canines, found their forever homes, embarking on a new chapter filled with love and happiness.
However, amidst the joyous reunions and heartwarming farewells, one furry resident stood alone, her spirit unbroken. Frito, a delightful pup with an unwavering zest for life, watched as her shelter companions were embraced by their new families, leaving her as the sole remaining resident.

As the shelter staff realized that their beloved Frito had been overlooked, a wave of disappointment washed over them.
Ali Hillard, the program manager, expressed her sorrow, stating, “She is a very lovely and deserving girl, so it was a shame that she was overlooked and no one came forward for her. We all know how special Frito is, so to see so many people pass her by was upsetting.”
With heavy hearts, the staff escorted Frito back to the shelter in Madison County, Illinois. The once-bustling facility now stood silent, a stark contrast to the jubilant atmosphere of earlier that day.
