From Shelter to Sanctuary
Someone once said, “Life is not one, but many journeys,” and truer words have never been spoken. Such is the captivating tale of Kano, a beloved pup who found himself on an unexpected path, only to ultimately return to the loving arms of his family.
Kano, also known as Skillet during his time at the shelter, arrived at DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia, where he spent five long months searching for his forever home. Despite his sweet, affectionate nature, the energetic pup remained overlooked, until he was transferred to the LifeLine Animal Project adoption center in Atlanta.

It was there that Kano’s luck began to turn. As fate would have it, a familiar face entered the shelter – the mother of Kano’s former owner, his beloved “grandmother.” This kindhearted woman had been following a gut instinct to search for her former pet, and her intuition led her straight to the shelter.

“When my son decided to go into the Army, I had to rehome Kano due to some other family commitments and concerns. But not long after, I just had an intuitive sense that I needed to look for him,” she recounted, the relief and joy palpable in her words.
Homecoming Happiness
The moment Kano laid eyes on his grandmother, the connection was palpable. According to Patricia Knowles Hughes, the Placement Manager at LifeLine Animal Project, the pup “did a 360 turn around when she walked up and called him Kano.” Tears of joy filled the room as the pair reunited, the bond between them still strong despite the time apart.

“I knew in my soul he needed me; it’s like he was calling me somehow. I know that sounds crazy. I tell him every day I’m sorry I was doing the best I could do at the time and I love him so much!” the woman expressed, the weight of her past decision lifted as she welcomed Kano back into her life.

A Forever Home, At Last
With Kano’s grandmother now in a position to provide him with a permanent home, complete with a fenced-in backyard for the pup to roam, the future looked brighter than ever. Even Kano’s former owner, the woman’s son, who was about to be deployed, could keep in touch with his beloved companion through FaceTime, their bond as strong as the day they parted.
Kano’s journey may have taken an unexpected turn, but in the end, he found his way back to the loving family he had always known. This heartwarming tale serves as a testament to the power of following one’s instincts, and the unbreakable bonds that can exist between a dog and their human family.
