Rudy, a delightful Pit Bull mix, was one of the quieter residents of the Animal Rescue League of Berks County in Pennsylvania. With a pensive look on his face, he sat in his kennel, his sad eyes fixed on the people who passed by, longing for someone to see him and understand his story.
A Heart in Need
One of those visitors was Stephanie, a volunteer who had come to the shelter grieving the loss of her beloved dog, Hank.

“I would like to tell Rudy thank you for finding me and teaching me how to be gentle with not just my grief but with him and that he is enough. You don’t have to fill those shoes. You have your own,” Stephanie said, her gratitude palpable.
