In March 2024, Diesel, a gentle-natured Pit Bull, found himself at WMASS. Richard Adamonis, a dedicated volunteer at the shelter, couldn’t shake the sadness he felt upon meeting Diesel. The dog’s confusion and fear mirrored the emotions of countless animals who arrive at the shelter, unsure of their fate.
“Just three weeks ago, Diesel was scared and confused, just like most animals who come here,” Richard shared in an interview with Newsweek.
This wasn’t entirely unexpected. Diesel, a ten-year-old canine, had spent a comfortable nine years in a loving home before his inexplicable surrender. The abrupt change of environment, coupled with the lack of a clear reason for his abandonment, left both Richard and the entire shelter staff deeply disturbed.
“It’s tough on these animals,” Richard said. “They haven’t done anything wrong, like Diesel here. They deserve better.”
