Not all dogs are granted a fair start in life. Tragically, many find themselves abandoned, left to face the unknown and fight for survival in terrible conditions.
Keanu was one such soul, cruelly dumped in the woods and left to fend for himself, with no access to food or water, and facing the frigid elements.

When Ne La and Adrian first laid eyes on the stricken canine, he was on the very brink of existence.
Lying motionlessly on the forest floor, Keanu had all but given up, his once-vibrant spirit extinguished. Contacting 1 Dog At A Time Rescue immediately, the pair rushed the dog to their veterinarian, Denisa.

“It took several hours before he started to come through and respond. He could barely lift his head at the beginning,” Jayne, the rescue’s co-founder, told We Love Animals.
Placed in the car, Keanu entrusted his life to his rescuers, his energy completely depleted.
Upon arrival at the clinic, he was promptly hooked up to an IV, and several agonizing hours later, he mustered the strength to open his eyes and gently lick the hand of his savior – a silent expression of gratitude.

The Gentlest Soul
The first glimpse of Keanu’s gentle, kind spirit immediately captivated the hearts of all who encountered him.
“Everybody that met him just fell in love with him. Just very gentle. Very, very gentle,” Jayne remarked.

For the initial week, Keanu remained motionless, his food and water placed directly beside him. But slowly, signs of progress began to emerge – he managed to rise to his paws and take a few tentative steps. And when he was finally able to venture outside, his recovery accelerated dramatically.
Within a matter of weeks, Keanu had transformed, walking for extended periods and even forming a friendship with another canine, Elsa. His favorite pastime? Simply lying beneath a tree, reveling in the moment.
“He is such a gentle boy, and is so relaxed with all our other dogs. He is very much his own person, and loves nothing more than lying outside under a tree and just be,” the rescue shared on Facebook.

A Second Chance at Life
Keanu’s spirit had been resurrected, his eyes now sparkling with gratitude and contentment. He was ready to wholeheartedly reciprocate the love that had been showered upon him during his recovery.
“He’s one of those dogs that comes around once in a lifetime. He’s a very special dog,” Jayne affirmed.

It wasn’t long before Keanu found his forever home, a loving family who would provide him with the endless days of adventure and joy he so rightly deserved. After enduring such hardship, this resilient pup had finally been granted the second chance at life that he had so desperately craved.
