That very night, as the shelter staff rushed to provide Amber with the care and comfort she so desperately needed, the Labrador’s ordeal took an unexpected turn.
Mustering the last of her strength, she delivered six tiny, vibrant puppies, a testament to her indomitable maternal instinct.
“Yellow lab Mama Amber was left tied to shelter fence in the middle of the night, very pregnant, and she delivered the next day at the shelter,” the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project (DARP) team recounted on Facebook, their words brimming with a mixture of heartbreak and hope.

A Rescue Mission
Determined to give Amber and her newborns the best possible chance at a brighter future, the DARP team from Sonoma County, California, stepped in to provide a safe haven for the beleaguered family.
As the exhausted mother and her pups settled into their new temporary home, the rescuers knew the road ahead would be challenging, but they were steadfast in their commitment to restoring Amber’s health and guiding her young ones to a future filled with love and security.
“Her first 24 hours with us she mostly slept in her warm quiet bed, no doubt exhausted from being left at the shelter with her stuffy (which makes a good pillow) and from almost immediately going labor and delivering and caring for newborns,” the DARP caregivers observed, their words painted with empathy and understanding.

“Everybody was dazzled with Amber’s quite affectionate nature and the fact that she was just the sweetest girl ever,” the rescue team marveled. “
Despite her new mother role, she was still acting like a puppy, craving love and sharing it back in return with everyone.”
