The Heartbreak of Abandonment
All dogs deserve a loving home and devoted humans who will cherish them with all their hearts. Witnessing the increasing number of canines deprived of the love they so desperately crave is truly heartbreaking.
The harrowing stories of innocent, abandoned animals left to fend for themselves only serve to highlight the growing crisis of animal cruelty. Yet, amidst the darkness, there are more good people than bad in this world, and it is their compassion that gives us hope for a brighter tomorrow.
This is the story of five adorable 10-week-old Collie cross pups whose journey to their happy ending was fraught with peril and uncertainty.
Rescued from the Roadside
In March 2023, these sweet puppies were abandoned in a cardboard box on the side of a busy road. Too young to grasp the danger they faced, the playful siblings continued to frolic, unaware of the imminent threat that surrounded them.
Luckily, a kind and responsible community member spotted the pups and immediately called the ISPCA rescuers, who rushed to save their lives.
As Trish Spargo, the head of ISPCA, emphasized, animal abandonment is not only a public offense but an “extremely irresponsible and cowardly” act, and she urged anyone with information to come forward.

Safe and Sound
Delivered to the ISPCA Animal Care Center, the puppies were given a thorough check-up by the veterinarians.
Apart from having parasites, the energetic siblings were found to be in relatively good health. The ISPCA volunteers quickly set to work, bathing the pups and providing the necessary treatment to rid them of the parasites.
“They had a blast… chasing one another and reveling in the array of toys. The extra special attention from our dedicated animal care staff and volunteers delighted them,” said Carmel Murray, the ISPCA head of communication, as the pups explored their new surroundings.
A Happy Ending
The five pups, named Sean, Stephanie, Michelle, Brendan, and Gaza, were kept at the Animal Center until they had recovered and received their first vaccinations. It didn’t take long for these sweet canines to find loving families who were eager to shower them with affection and care.
These puppies were the fortunate ones, but we must remember that countless other abandoned animals are not as lucky. Faced with a massive influx of surrendered pets, shelters and rescue centers are often overwhelmed, highlighting the critical need for more people to step up and help in any way they can.
We are grateful to all the compassionate individuals who choose to foster and adopt these abandoned animals, giving them the happy ending they so rightfully deserve. It is through their selfless acts that we are reminded of the power of love to transform even the most heartbreaking of situations.
