When Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, a rescue group in Irvine, California, received a call, she assumed it would contain information about a dog needing assistance, as was customary. However, this time was an exception.

Devoted Duo

Suzette learned of a pair of small canines meandering around a neighborhood exhibiting very worrying behavior.

It appeared the dogs had been left behind by their previous owners, steadfastly refusing to vacate their location or separate even briefly.

“They would literally follow each other up the street and then back to their spot. They never, ever, ever left each other’s side,” Suzette informed The Dodo.

Despite neighbors’ best attempts to entice the pooches, later named Pongo and Lilly, into their residences to provide shelter, the determined duo did not budge an inch.

The neighbors eventually prepared a bed, food and water for Pongo and Lilly before contacting every rescue group they could, including Logan’s Legacy.

Rescuing the Inseparable Friends

Immediately recognizing this would be no simple rescue given the difficulty of catching two dogs rather than one, Suzette was grateful when fellow rescuer Chloe volunteered to assist.

“I realized an amazing rescuer, Chloe, was asking for fosters for them. Thank goodness Chloe and I connected. There’s nothing better than rescuers working together to save lives,” Suzette added.

The remarkable rescue teams collaborated, promptly traveling to the site.

Thinking it the most straightforward approach, they decided to set up a humane dog trap with tasty treats inside, and indeed, Pongo and Lilly came running as soon as they noticed.

“Pongo went in so fast, but the tiny black one [was] so wary. But she stayed right by her friend,” Suzette described.

While Pongo entered the trap, Lilly remained by his side initially before meandering into a nearby yard. Seizing the opportunity while she took shelter under a car, the rescuers surrounded her with baby gates, ensuring she could not get away again.

Once captured, they joyfully reunited her with Pongo.

“It was so cute to see how bonded these two were. They were skinny, scared and sweet all at the same time,” Suzette said.

A Happy Ending for the Friends

The adorable pair promptly found a foster home where they received much-needed baths and haircuts.

Today, Lily and Pongo thrive in their foster residences which cater to their every need and more. However, the charming twosome still hope to find their “furever” home together. Given how endearing they are, I’m confident they’ll have one before long!

But their rescue would not have occurred without the tremendous efforts of the local rescue teams. Spectacular teamwork by extraordinary people.

Well done, everyone!
