Sora, a striking black Labrador Pitbull mix, found herself within the walls of Valley Animal Center, the largest no-euthanasia shelter for dogs and cats in Fresno, California, nearly four years ago.
Her owner, unable to provide the attention and training she craved, made the difficult decision to surrender her in July 2021.
Little did Sora know, her journey toward a forever home would be one filled with heartache and disappointment.

For countless days, Sora patiently waited, her soulful eyes searching for that special someone to take her home.
After an astonishing 900 days, a potential adopter arrived at the shelter, sparking excitement and renewed hope. Sora’s dreams seemed to be finally coming true – or so she thought.
“Sora is a sweet pup with great energy. She’s the perfect companion for an active lifestyle, ready to accompany you on long walks or bike rides. Sadly, she’s been confined to a kennel for nearly four years,” the shelter wrote on their Facebook page, desperately seeking a forever family for this lovable pup.

Tragically, Sora’s joy was short-lived. Less than 24 hours after her adoption, the new owner called the shelter, requesting to return her.
The reason?
Sora hadn’t been given enough time to adjust to her new surroundings, and the introduction to new family members had been too abrupt.

“Sora did not get enough time to decompress in her new home and was introduced to new family members too quickly,” Sim Kaur from Valley Animal Center explained to Newsweek, painting a heartbreaking picture of a confused and overwhelmed pup.

Despite the crushing blow of rejection, the shelter remains hopeful that someone special will open their heart and home to Sora.
They understand that while shelters strive to provide love and enrichment, nothing can truly replace the warmth and stability of a forever family.
“According to our certified dog trainer, Mariah Prudhume, if she was able to get her into a loving home, her mental health would dramatically improve. With love and patience, she wouldn’t be the reactive dog she is today, and she would finally become the happy and goofy dog she is meant to be,” Valley Animal Center shared on their Instagram post.
