A Cruel Beginning
Fate can be cruelly unkind, especially to those who never had a fighting chance. In a heartbreaking case of irresponsible breeding, a litter of puppies in California found themselves discarded by a backyard breeder, their lives hanging by a thread.
When a call came in about a puppy no older than three days, a woman named Clanay Reza, a compassionate animal lover and independent rescuer, sprang into action. The entire litter was clinging to life, their breaths growing shallower by the moment, and they desperately needed help.

Fighting for Survival
Upon arrival, Clanay was met with a harrowing sight – the puppies were fending for themselves, their mother having bled to death. Among them was Lucky, the smallest and weakest of the bunch, no bigger than a baby hamster.
Despite being given virtually no chance of survival, Clanay refused to give up on him. With unwavering determination, she fed him formula every twenty minutes, barely sleeping through the first few critical days.

“I never knew if tomorrow was promised for him. Lucky’s first 8 weeks of life I hardly ever slept. I would stay up watching him making sure he was still alive and breathing,” Clanay wrote on Instagram.
Tragically, Lucky’s siblings did not make it, leaving him as the sole survivor with a fighting chance.
A Rollercoaster Ride
As weeks passed and Lucky’s life was no longer in imminent danger, new challenges arose. His eyes began to open, revealing a yeast infection and a corneal ulcer, resulting in the eventual removal of one eye.
“We found out he was blind from one eye and actually had a puncture in his eye and a corneal ulcer. As he got older, the ulcer and puncture grew and started causing him pain, so at 4 months old, we removed his eye,” Clanay explained.

At ten weeks of age, Lucky was diagnosed with albinism, a condition resulting from a recessive gene caused by inbreeding.
The first year of Lucky’s life was an uphill battle, filled with obstacles and hardships. He lost his siblings and his mother, and his path was riddled with bumps, but through it all, his will to live never faltered.
“He’s had a rollercoaster of a life his first year, but I am thankful for all the bumps in the road we had with him. They just made my love for him grow stronger,” Clanay wrote.

At 8 years old, Lucky has never been happier. Together with his fantastic family, he creates wonderful memories daily, his terrible past a mere footnote in his incredible journey.
His indomitable fighting spirit has transformed him into a strong, confident companion. Lucky loves everyone, especially children, acting like a kid himself.
Recently, Lucky welcomed a new baby sister into the family, and his joy knew no bounds. His life now revolves around her, staying by her side and indulging in naps together.
Once an abandoned pup with no chance at life, Lucky is now the luckiest dog on Earth!
